Michael Cain was born in Whyalla in South Australia on October 6th, 1982.
He spent his childhood in Adelaide before moving with his father and his sister to Tasmania in 1998.
Since leaving school Michael has worked as a computer operator, a customer service officer and a mechanical technician.
He is also a voluntary ambulance officer, something he was inspired to take up after experiencing a disastrous bush fire on a Tasmanian Bass Strait island.
Michael's ambition is to study medicine or work in some equivalent medical based community work.
Michael currently lives in Launceston.
It was here in October 2004 that Michael was surprised and upset to discover that he cannot donate blood because he is a sexually-active gay man.

Because HIV is transmitted by unsafe sex not gay sex, blood donors should be
screened for the safety of their sexual activity, not the gender of their sexual partner.
